Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu . After losing in Bhaktapur–2, Mahesh Basnet, Secretary of the CPN-UML, has pledged to remain active in politics and continue advocating for public welfare. He stated that defeat will not discourage him, and he will persistently raise his voice for the people even from outside the parliament.
Through social media, Basnet wrote, “I contested the elections representing UML from Bhaktapur–2. The result this time was not in our favor, but in a democracy, the people’s decision is paramount. I accept it with respect.”
He congratulated the victorious candidate, Rajib Khatri of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, and wished him a successful term. He also expressed gratitude to all voters who supported him and to his party colleagues who worked tirelessly during the campaign.
Basnet emphasized, “Winning or losing is a natural part of politics, but our commitment to serving the people never ends. Our role now will be as constructive opposition. We will continue to raise our voice for education, health, employment, corruption-free governance, and a prosperous society even from outside the parliament.”
He affirmed that the rest of his life will be dedicated to serving the people and contributing to the development of Bhaktapur.
