Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has issued an interim order not to arrest former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife Arzu Rana Deuba. The joint bench of Justices Mahesh Sharma Poudel and Nityananda Pandey directed that they should not be arrested based on the warrant issued by Kathmandu District Court.
According to the ordinance issued on Baisakh 18, cases investigated by the Department of Money Laundering Investigation fall under the jurisdiction of the Special Court. However, the arrest warrant was issued by the Kathmandu District Court, which the Supreme Court corrected, stating that the warrant was outside its jurisdiction.
The Supreme Court clearly ordered that Deuba and his wife should not be arrested or made to face arrest under that warrant. The government, however, is now preparing to issue a new arrest warrant through the Special Court.
