Prakash Kafle / Kathmandu: government has incurred a loss of nearly NPR 1.2 billion in the past two weeks due to its inability to control petroleum consumption. Federal Affairs and General Administration Minister Pratibha Rawal, while announcing the decisions of the cabinet meeting, stated that the lack of effective alternative measures to reduce fuel consumption over the last 15 days has resulted in a loss of NPR 1.172 billion.
According to her, the government has also decided to provide a 50 percent exemption on customs duties and infrastructure development taxes applied to the import of petrol, diesel, and kerosene. Minister Rawal clarified that price adjustments have become unavoidable and emphasized that the government is not trying to hide the reality; the adjustment of petroleum product prices is necessary.
Meanwhile, today marks 11 days since the formation of the government led by Balen Shah. During this period, some businessmen and entrepreneurs have come under increased scrutiny and raids in the name of asset verification, making the private sector somewhat uneasy.
