In the past, Victor Paudel and Routine of Nepal Banda played an important role in helping Balen Shah win the position of Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Through this platform, Balen was significantly elevated from his identity as a rapper to a popular political figure.
Although their initial perspectives were similar, over time differences in priorities and methods of implementation began to appear, which is believed to have increased the distance between them. In particular, differences in public opinions on some decisions of the metropolitan city and critical expressions are considered major reasons for the growing tension. Indirect remarks seen on social media have also indicated signs of this dispute, although no official statements have been made by either side.
However, recent developments suggest a change in this relationship. It is reported that a disagreement arose in the month of Falgun regarding a meeting with certain individuals in Jhapa. Sources claim that the disagreement deepened after Balen Shah refused a proposal to meet controversial individuals.
Since then, Victor Paudel has indicated a policy of not giving one-sided support to Balen Shah and instead analyzing based on merits and demerits independently. This has led to mixed reactions among supporters—some have welcomed this as positive independence, while others have criticized it.
Politically as well, the distance between them appears to be increasing. There was discussion about forming a new alternative political force by bringing together individuals such as Balen Shah, Victor Paudel, Kulman Ghising, Gopi Hamal, and Sagar Dhakal. However, disagreements over leadership selection, especially the idea of rejecting “imported leadership,” and other differences have created challenges in coordination.
According to analysts, differences in opinion in public life are not unusual, but how they are managed is important. If dialogue can be maintained, there is a possibility of improving the relationship. For now, this matter remains unconfirmed officially, but it has become a topic of interest in Kathmandu’s political and social sphere, and it may influence the prospects of alternative political forces.
