Kathmandu – Om Prakash Aryal, a trusted ex-advisor of Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, has assumed office as the Home Minister. However, Sudan Urung’s faction, a prominent Gen Z movement leader group, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with his appointment and has even called for Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s resignation.
The protest took place in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar, where Gurung and other youth leaders argued that Aryal’s appointment was made without consulting the Gen Z movement. They accused the interim government of “hijacking the movement” and criticized the decision to give a key ministry to someone who had already been part of negotiations on behalf of Balen Shah.

During the demonstration, participants also demanded justice for the families of those who lost their lives during the recent Gen Z protests, highlighting ongoing concerns about how the movement’s sacrifices were being politically managed.
Gurung warned that the Nepali people hold the ultimate power and insisted that no one could stop them from holding the government accountable. The protests underline the tension between the interim government’s decisions and the expectations of youth activists who had played a significant role in shaping the political transition.
