Kathmandu: Disappointing news has emerged for those waiting to apply for the US Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery 2027, as the programme’s reopening has once again been thrown into uncertainty. A three-judge panel of the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has temporarily blocked a lower court order directing the government to reopen the DV Lottery programme.
Earlier, a district court had ordered the US government to reopen the DV application process by November 1. However, the Trump administration appealed the decision, resulting in a temporary halt to the programme.
The development has affected millions of hopeful applicants who were expecting the application process to open from November 1. Through the Diversity Visa programme, the United States provides up to 55,000 immigrant visas annually, offering eligible applicants an opportunity to obtain permanent residency. The future of the 2027 DV Lottery remains uncertain until the court proceedings reach a final decision.
