Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu :During today’s House of Representatives election, President Ramchandra Paudel and Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav did not cast their votes. Election officials confirmed that their absence reflects a commitment to constitutional neutrality.
According to the President’s press advisor, Kiran Pokharel, President Paudel, as the guardian of the constitution and the head of state, chose not to participate in voting to maintain impartiality. Previously, he had cast his vote at Satyawati Secondary School in Byas Municipality, Tanahun, his home district.
Similarly, Vice President Yadav abstained from the voting process, citing constitutional impartiality, as confirmed by his press advisor Dinesh Yadav. In past elections, he had voted at the Basbariya polling station in Bara district.
Political analysts note that the decision of the country’s highest constitutional officials to refrain from voting underscores the importance of neutrality and the respect for democratic processes. Such actions send a clear signal that top officials are mindful of constitutional norms and public trust.
Voting is underway across the country for 205 House of Representatives seats, with the Election Commission ensuring that the process remains fair and transparent. Analysts say this move, while procedural, could have a subtle but clear influence on public perception of political and constitutional norms.
