Kathmandu — KP Sharma Oli has just taken an extraordinary step that has surprised many. He returned Rs 367 million to the state treasury, money that had been spent illegally from the state coffers for VIP medical treatment during his premiership.
The repayment came after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority began probing the case. Of the amount, Rs 239 million was spent on Oli’s own treatment, Rs 70 million on former President Ram Baran Yadav, and Rs 81 million on former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal.
The move has sparked discontent within the UML party, as the money was refunded through the party’s account. At a Secretariat meeting, Vice-Chair Gokarna Bista demanded answers from the leadership, questioning why the party should bear the burden of past mistakes.
