Kathmanduโ€”Nepal defeated Samoa in the final Super Six match of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier in Oman, winning the trophy.

Batting first after losing the toss, Nepal scored 211/4 in 20 overs. Samoa failed to chase the target. Asif Sheikh scored 69 off 41 balls, and Dipendra Singh Airey added 53 off 33. Kushal Bhurtel made 17 and Arif Sheikh 9.

Captain Rohit Paudel remained unbeaten on 21 off 12 balls, and Lokesh Bam scored 39 not out. With this win, Nepal lifted the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier trophy.

Daniel Burgess, Saumani Tai, Darius Visser, and Noah Mead took 1 wicket each for Samoa.

Nepal won an ICC tournament for the first time in 11 years. Earlier, Nepal lost to Oman in the final of the 2023 World Cup qualifiers in a Super Over.

Nepal last won the ICC Division 4 title in 2014. Before that, it won the Division 4 title in 2010. Nepal has not won any ICC qualifiers or other tournaments since 2014.

Nepal defeated Kuwait and Japan in the group stage. As Kuwait did not advance from the group stage, Nepal reached the Super Six with 2 points from the win over Japan. Nepal won a thrilling 1-run victory over the UAE in the first match of the Super Six.

After that, Nepal was almost certain to qualify for the World Cup after winning by 5 runs against Qatar in the second match. After a favorable result in the next match, Nepal qualified for the World Cup before playing 2 matches.

In the third match, Nepal won by 38 runs against Oman and came close to the title.

Through the qualifiers, Nepal, UAE and Oman have already booked their tickets for the T20 World Cup to be held jointly in India and Sri Lanka next year.
