Many women experience more severe menstrual pain during winter. Health experts suggest that weakened immunity, reduced blood circulation, and lower vitamin D levels are the primary reasons behind increased menstrual discomfort in cold weather.

In winter, the immune system becomes weaker due to increased exposure to viruses and infections, causing fatigue, joint pain, and overall discomfort during menstruation.
Cold temperatures narrow blood vessels, raising prostaglandin levels—the hormone responsible for cramps. This leads to severe abdominal pain, lower back pain, and emotional imbalance. Reduced blood flow to the uterus further intensifies the pain.
Limited sunlight during winter also lowers vitamin D levels, which can reduce calcium in the body and exacerbate period symptoms.
However, not all women face severe pain. Those with low physical activity, weak immunity, high intake of processed foods, or conditions like PCOS and endometriosis are more likely to experience increased menstrual pain throughout the year.
