Kathmandu — Advocate Sulav Kharel, who had celebrated the burning of the Supreme Court on social media last month, reportedly collapsed inside the Constitutional Bench on Wednesday after being sharply questioned by the justices.

Kharel appeared to argue in the UML’s petition for the restoration of the House of Representatives, but as soon as he introduced himself, Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut confronted him over his controversial Facebook post from the day the court caught fire.
Eyewitnesses say the chief justice asked Kharel how a legal professional could express joy during an attack on the judiciary. Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla also pressed him, recalling his remarks calling judges “party agents” and suggesting they “should be burned too.”
Unable to respond, Kharel reportedly began trembling and nearly collapsed. Security personnel escorted him out and offered water. He was later taken to the registrar’s office for rest, with discussions of sending him to the hospital.
Kharel’s earlier post had stated that he felt “no sadness” seeing the Supreme Court burn and that he would “rewrite the future of Nepal’s judiciary,” which sparked widespread condemnation.
