An audio recording obtained by Nepal Press reportedly captures Gurung saying Bam’s name was linked to NGOs/INGOs, which led to the decision to block the appointment. The recording was apparently made at the “We Nepal” office in Ranibari and included several Gen-Z activists.
In the recording, Gurung is heard pressuring Home Minister Omprakash Aryal’s private secretary, Dhiraj Joshi, arguing that local representation and consultations—especially from Sudurpashchim — should have been sought before any appointment. The audio also contains heated remarks from some activist participants, reflecting anger and calls for action.
Gurung maintains that the move was taken due to concerns over Bam’s NGO/INGO links and says that proper consultation was not carried out. Officials have not yet issued an official response, and further clarification or investigation is pending.
