Kathmandu — On the very day of his retirement, former Nepal Police Inspector General Chandrakuber Khapung has been barred from leaving the country. The Inquiry Commission on the Bhadra 23 and 24 Incidents, led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, announced the restriction on Thursday.
The commission decided to prohibit Khapung from traveling abroad and to instruct relevant authorities not to allow him to leave the Kathmandu Valley without prior approval from the commission.

According to a press statement issued by commission spokesperson Bikyan Raj Sharma, the decision was made because Khapung may be required to appear before the commission at any time regarding the investigation into the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24 (early September).
The statement also mentioned that Khapung will be formally notified about the decision. The commission added that monitoring measures have been placed on Khapung as part of the ongoing investigation.
The commission has previously accused Khapung of refusing to provide details of police officers involved in the incidents during his tenure as Inspector General.
