Appearing before the high-level investigation commission formed to probe the crackdown on the protest, Lamichhane stated that prison security personnel and staff had handed him over to RSP leaders and family members amid chaos outside the jail.
He told the commission that he was unaware of any letter at the time of his release and only learned about it later.
According to a source, Lamichhane said in his statement, “The prison administration itself released me to my family and party leaders. I didn’t meet the jailer when leaving, so I had no idea about any letter.”
Earlier, the commission had also questioned the Nakkhu Prison jailer, who admitted preparing the letter after receiving an ‘order,’ though he did not specify who gave the instruction.
On Bhadra 24, the day after the Gen-Z protests, RSP members visited Nakkhu Prison and took Lamichhane out, after which the alleged release letter circulated widely on social media.
