Kathmandu—Following the death of singer Nitu Paudel, who attempted self-immolation at Yam Tilak Studio in Anamnagar on Kartik 1, 2081 BS, singer Babul Giri is now in police custody. Paudel passed away on Kartik 7, 2081 BS, while undergoing treatment at Kartik Burn Hospital.

Paudel’s family filed a case of incitement to suicide against Giri. The Kathmandu District Police Office has extended its custody by five days for further investigation.
On Kartik 1, 2081 BS, around 2:30 PM, Paudel attempted self-immolation by pouring petrol over herself. About 55% of her body was burned, and she was in critical condition at the hospital. Giri also sustained minor burns to his hands and feet.
Paudel and Giri had been in a romantic relationship for seven years. According to the family, disputes between them led to Paudel’s suicide. The police complaint alleges that Giri exploited Paudel with promises of marriage and deceived her without intending to marry.
