Kathmandu – Nepal clinched a thrilling 5-run victory over Qatar in the ICC T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia Pacific Qualifier Super Six, thanks to a stellar five-wicket haul by Sandeep Lamichhane.

Chasing Nepal’s target of 148 runs, Qatar was bowled out for 142 runs in 19.5 overs. Opener Imal Liyanage scored 55 runs off 35 balls, while Zubair Ali contributed 52 runs. However, the rest of the batters failed to make significant contributions, leading to Qatar’s narrow defeat.

For Nepal:

  • Sandeep Lamichhane took 5 wickets
  • Nandan Yadav claimed 2 wickets
  • Dipendra Singh Airee took 1 wicket

Earlier, after losing the toss and being sent in to bat first, Nepal posted 147 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs, led by captain Rohit Paudel’s half-century.

  • Rohit Paudel: 58 runs off 41 balls
  • Dipendra Singh Airee: 26 runs off 21 balls
  • Gulshan Jha: 16 runs off 8 balls (a quick cameo)

For Qatar:

  • Captain Mirza Baig took 3 wickets, conceding 29 runs in 4 overs
  • Daniel Luis also took 3 wickets
  • Muhammad Asim picked up 1 wicket

Nepal had earlier defeated UAE in the Super Six on Sunday. Meanwhile, Qatar, who lost their first match against Oman, has now earned 2 points in the Super Six stage.
