Kathmandu: Senior leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Jhalnath Khanal, has hinted at a possible return to the UML party but has outlined four key ideological conditions for reunification. He criticized UML President KP Sharma Oli for lacking “stable thinking” and said that without ideological unity, forming a new party would be inevitable.

Khanal emphasized that a return to UML requires following the path of socialist revolution and transformation. The four basic ideological conditions he highlighted are:
-
Accept Marxism–Leninism as the guiding principle.
-
Adopt the path of socialist revolution and transformation.
-
Accept a Nepali-specific socialist program tailored to the country’s reality.
-
Commit to fighting domestic and foreign reactionary forces.
Khanal expressed personal attachment to UML, calling it his “ideological child,” but criticized Oli’s opportunistic and personality-centered leadership style.
If ideological unity is not reached, Khanal’s group is ready to form a new party and indicated potential alignment with restructuring efforts within the Maoist Centre.
Regarding the country’s political crisis, Khanal stated that elections should not be the first option. He suggested resolving the crisis through parliamentary restoration or a multi-party conference under the president’s facilitation to build national consensus. He also encouraged the younger generation, including the Gen Z generation, to participate in politics and form their own parties.
