Kathmandu — Israeli authorities have confirmed that Nepali student Bipin Joshi was shot and killed while in Hamas custody in Gaza.

His body was repatriated to Nepal, and the family performed his funeral in Kanchanpur on Tuesday. Israel’s ambassador to Nepal, Smulik Ari Bass, stated that forensic tests confirmed a gunshot wound to Joshi’s head and that Hamas was responsible for his death.
Ambassador Bass told BBC, “Forensic tests clearly show a gunshot to his head. While everyone believed he was alive, he was killed while under Hamas control. The forensic evidence confirms this.”
Meeting with the grieving family, Bass noted that Joshi’s courage and contribution to Israel-Nepal relations will remain symbolic.
According to Israel, Joshi was killed as a hostage, not during combat. Hamas has not yet responded to this claim.
Hamas repeatedly released lists of living and deceased hostages, but Joshi’s name never appeared. On October 8, an old video of Joshi surfaced, raising hope among Nepalis.
However, on October 10, his name was absent from the latest list, confirming his unknown status, until October 13, when the Israeli military formally notified family and officials via video conference that Joshi was no longer alive.
