Kathmandu- A devastating fire at the popular ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub in North Goa’s Arpora village has left 25 people dead and several others injured. The tragic incident, which occurred late Saturday night, claimed the lives of four Nepali citizens who were employed as staff members at the venue.

The blaze reportedly started during a party featuring a “fire show” or “electrical firecrackers,” which ignited the club’s highly flammable wooden structure. Thick smoke quickly engulfed the premises, trapping most victims in the unventilated basement and kitchen areas, where they died of suffocation.

Goa officials confirmed that most of the deceased were staff members (20 people), along with five tourists.

The four Nepali victims have been identified as Churna Bahadur Pun, Vivek Katwal (Bibek Katuwal), Sabin, and Sudeep. Their home districts in Nepal have not been publicly disclosed by authorities in Goa.

Safety Lapses and Official Inquiry

Preliminary investigations suggest the nightclub operated without proper licenses and violated multiple fire safety norms, including having inadequate exits and a single, narrow access road that delayed firefighting efforts. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident to fix responsibility.

Four staff members, including a general manager, have been arrested, and arrest warrants have been issued for the club owners, Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, who are currently absconding.
