Kathmandu—In a chilling incident reminiscent of the infamous Nirmala Pant case, 13-year-old Anshu Gautam was found brutally murdered in Morang’s Letang, Nepal. Anshu, who left her home on Asoj 21, 2082 BS (October 7, 2025), saying she was going to play on a swing, was discovered dead 18 days later on Kartik 8, 2082 BS (October 24, 2025), in a shared forest area near the Letang-2 and Belbari border. Her body was found dismembered and decomposed, raising suspicions of rape followed by a gruesome murder.

Police investigations suggest that Anshu’s body was deliberately mutilated, possibly to destroy evidence. The condition of her remains—scattered, partially naked, and severely decomposed—has complicated the investigation. According to Morang Police Spokesperson DSP Kopila Chudal, the nature of the crime scene, with clothes separated from the body and the lower part exposed, strongly points to rape before the murder. “The investigation is being conducted with utmost seriousness and precision,” DSP Chudal said on Kartik 8, 2082 BS. “While no arrests have been made yet, we have substantial grounds for suspicion.”

The body was found approximately 4.5 kilometers from Budhabare Chaur, where Anshu was last seen, indicating a possible abduction followed by a planned assault and murder. The police have formed a special investigation team to probe the case. DSP Chudal noted that wild animals may have further damaged the body, but investigators are also exploring the possibility that the dismemberment was an attempt to mislead the investigation. “We are analyzing every angle to uncover the truth,” she added.

The post-mortem report is awaited to confirm the cause of death, but preliminary findings have fueled public outrage. The brutality of the crime has left the local community in shock and grief, with many drawing parallels to the rape and murder of Nirmala Pant in Kanchanpur, whose body was found in a sugarcane field in 2075 BS (2018). Authorities are also investigating whether Anshu was targeted due to personal enmity or other motives.

“We are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice,” DSP Chudal assured on Kartik 8, 2082 BS. The incident has sparked widespread fear and sorrow, with the community mourning the loss of an innocent young life.
