Bengaluru. A 31-year-old surgeon, Dr. Mahendra Reddy, has been arrested by Bengaluru Police on charges of murdering his wife, dermatologist Dr. Kritika M. Reddy, by administering a fatal dose of anesthesia.
Initially, Dr. Mahendra claimed that his wife had died of natural causes. However, the post-mortem report revealed traces of Propofol, a powerful anesthetic drug typically used during surgeries, indicating an overdose.

Timeline of Events
The incident occurred on April 24, 2025. Kritika, who had been suffering from gastritis, was reportedly being treated at home by her husband. According to police, Mahendra administered IV fluids through a drip—believed to be mixed with anesthesia.
On April 23, Kritika messaged Mahendra via WhatsApp asking to remove the drip as she was in severe pain, but he refused. A few hours later, Kritika’s parents found her unconscious in her room and rushed her to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Post-Mortem Battle
Mahendra’s family initially resisted the post-mortem, but it was conducted after strong insistence from Kritika’s sister, Dr. Nikita Reddy. The forensic report later confirmed traces of Propofol in Kritika’s body.
Following the report, Marathahalli Police filed a murder case based on a complaint from Kritika’s father, Muni Reddy. Mahendra was arrested from Manipal in Udupi district.
In a statement, Muni Reddy said,
“Kritika trusted her husband completely. He used his medical knowledge to take her life. We demand the strictest punishment and justice for our daughter.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Parashuram said that Mahendra is suspected of having sourced the anesthetic from his workplace, Victoria Hospital. Items seized from Kritika’s room also tested positive for Propofol at the forensic lab.
Mahendra and Kritika were married on May 26, 2024, and lived in Ayyappa Layout under Tharamandahalli Police Station. He was presented before a magistrate on October 15 and remanded to nine days in police custody.
