A notable moment occurred when Home Minister Omprakash Aryal and UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel engaged in a heated exchange. Aryal alleged that UML was targeting him excessively, calling himself a “political victim.”
Pokharel responded that Aryal had not fulfilled his ministerial responsibilities and criticized statements about arresting individuals as excessive. Aryal clarified that as a former UML member, he understood the party’s past and present practices well.
Aryal also mentioned that the government faces security challenges from political parties, citing individuals from Bhaktapur, including Durga Prasai and Mahesh Basnet, as sources of added challenges.
PM Karki appeared firm on conducting elections and emphasized that the political parties participating or not participating are the primary stakeholders, and the government is committed to completing the election process.
Some parties recommended the restoration of the House of Representatives, while others stressed that elections must be held on schedule. Leaders highlighted concerns about peace and security and the presence of looted weapons and escaped criminals as major challenges.
Congress and UML criticized Aryal’s comment to “release those imprisoned,” arguing it undermined the regular process of security agencies. Pokharel described Aryal’s conduct as irresponsible and inappropriate.
Aryal concluded by stating that ensuring good governance and security is the government’s responsibility, urging parties to cooperate in these efforts.
