Prakash Kafle/Kathmandu. Iran has issued a strong warning suggesting that tourist and recreational destinations around the world could become potential targets as tensions with its adversaries escalate. According to Al Jazeera, Iranian military spokesperson Abolfazl Shekarchi stated that parks, entertainment hubs, and popular travel destinations may no longer be considered secure for countries viewed as hostile to Iran. The warning comes amid concerns that Iran could expand its strategy beyond the Middle East by carrying out asymmetric or guerrilla-style operations in different parts of the world, raising global security fears. The situation intensified after Israel reportedly launched strikes earlier this week on Iran’s major South Pars offshore gas field. In response, Iran has increased its focus on energy infrastructure in Gulf nations.
Reports indicate that on Friday morning, Iran carried out a two-phase drone attack targeting Kuwait’s Mina Al-Ahmadi oil refinery, one of the largest in the region with a daily processing capacity of around 730,000 barrels. The strike is said to have triggered a significant fire at the facility. Meanwhile, tensions have also surfaced between Iran and the United States following remarks by Scott Bessent, who hinted that Washington might ease restrictions on Iranian oil at sea. Iranian oil ministry spokesperson Saman Ghoddoosi dismissed the suggestion, stating that Iran currently has no surplus crude available for international markets and described the comments as an attempt to influence buyers. Iran has also issued a direct warning to the United Arab Emirates, cautioning that if its territory is used again to launch attacks on Iranian-controlled islands in the Persian Gulf, it could respond with “destructive action” targeting Ras Al Khaimah.
These islands lie near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy route through which nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas supplies pass. Earlier this month, the UAE reported intercepting a drone in the Al-Hamra area of Ras Al Khaimah. With tensions continuing to rise between Israel and Iran, security concerns are growing not only across the Gulf region but also on a global scale.
