Kathmandu – The Supreme Court has ordered journalist Kishor Shrestha to be physically presented in court on Monday, refusing to grant his immediate release today.
During the preliminary hearing of a habeas corpus petition filed by his wife, Saraswati Shrestha, Justice Balkrishna Dhakal’s single bench directed that Shrestha be brought to court along with the seized materials.
Police had arrested Shrestha on Wednesday night. His lawyers demanded his release today, but the court issued only a “show cause” order, stating that further study of the evidence was necessary.
On Monday, Shrestha will be presented before the court, where the legality of his arrest, the basis of his detention, and the seized materials will be examined. The hearing will determine whether his custody continues or another order is issued.
