Kathmandu — The government has decided to provide an additional Rs 15,000 each to those injured during the GenZ protests of Bhadra 23 and 24. The move follows complaints that many injured protesters were struggling to afford follow-up medical care.
According to government spokesperson and Minister for Communication Jagadish Kharel, the additional assistance will be given to 2,429 injured individuals. Earlier, the government had already provided Rs 20,000 per person.
Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting also approved accepting a nearly USD 5 million grant from Norway and a USD 2.1 million grant from Switzerland to support provincial and local governance programs. The government has formed a committee led by Prakash Jung KC to study the restructuring of NEPSE and recommended an ordinance to amend the Special Service Act, 2042.
Additionally, the meeting fixed the trekking permit fee for foreigners in Upper Mustang at USD 50 per person per day and endorsed necessary changes to the Immigration Regulations. The Cabinet also appointed Dr. Kalpana Kumari Shrestha as the executive director of the Shahid Dharmabhakta Mathema Organ Transplant Centre.
