Mumbai — A YouTuber, Rohit Arya, who held children hostage in a studio in Powai, Mumbai, was killed in a police encounter.

According to local time, on Thursday, around 1:45 PM, Arya took 19 hostages, including 17 children, one senior citizen, and one other person. Police and a special commando team conducted a one-hour operation, rescuing all hostages safely. The accused, injured by gunfire, died during treatment at the hospital.

Police recovered an air gun and some chemicals from the scene. Arya’s motive for taking hostages remains unclear, though authorities said he appeared mentally unstable.

He had reportedly called over 100 children to the studio under the pretext of auditions. The first floor of the studio was being used for acting classes, where the children were held hostage.

During the incident, children were seen looking out of the studio windows. Parents rushed to the scene after hearing the news. A video of Arya was also circulating on social media, in which he says, “I have some questions for you.” Police are continuing the investigation.
