The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games began Saturday in Japan, with 45 countries and regions competing across 43 sports. Nepal is also participating with its national flag.
More than 17,000 athletes and officials are taking part in the Games, held across several cities in Japan. Some sports also offer qualification opportunities for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Japanese Emperor Naruhito, accompanied by Empress Masako, attended the opening ceremony and officially declared the Games open.
