Kathmandu — The Kathmandu District Administration Office has imposed a two-month ban on public gatherings, demonstrations, and protests involving more than five people in five areas of the capital. Chief District Officer Ishwar Raj Paudel issued the order on Friday, citing potential risks of vandalism, clashes, and unrest.

The restriction, enforced under Section 6(3)(k) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, will come into effect from Kartik 1. Sensitive areas, including the presidential residence, are now off-limits for sit-ins, rallies, and demonstrations.
The decision has sparked political controversy. The former Oli government had implemented similar restrictions, which were criticized at the time. Now, with the Karki government in power, the same type of measure is being enforced, drawing widespread criticism. Analysts say this raises concerns over democratic values and civil liberties.
