Kathmandu—Prime Minister Sushila Karki has pledged that the current government will take strict action against cooperative fraudsters under any circumstances and ensure the return of victims’ savings.

On Thursday, PM Karki held a special meeting at the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers’ office with ministers, secretaries, members of the Crisis Management and Resolution Commission, officials from the Cooperative Regulation Authority, and representatives of the National Federation for Protection of Cooperative Victims.

Addressing the participants, the Prime Minister said, ‘Those who cheat and run away must not be spared. They wear expensive watches, drive luxury cars, and even fake divorces. If there are gaps in the law, we will amend them.’

She emphasized that if the current government does not address the issue, no one else will. Even if it requires auctioning the assets of fraudsters, victims’ savings must be restored.

PM Karki added, ‘If we don’t act, who will? Victims shouldn’t have to beg on the streets while fraudsters walk free. This is not the mark of a civilized society. We will proceed by auctioning properties or contacting those abroad if necessary.’
