Kathmandu- Minister for Communication, Information, and Technology Jagdish Kharel has announced that free internet services will be made available at public spaces in the top 10 cities across Nepal within five months.
During a press conference following his assumption of office, Kharel instructed that the proposals submitted by ministry staff be improved and implemented.
He emphasized his commitment to making the public experience tangible results, saying his work would not just be symbolic: “We ministers in this government prioritize the country and the people first. Everything else comes later. We will focus on building the nation and serving the people.”

Kharel also stressed the importance of an independent civil service, noting that when bureaucracy works freely, employees can perform effectively: “If bureaucracy is independent, it will not serve as a tool for any political leader. Our civil servants will take initiative, and passing exams alone is not enough.”
Highlighting the critical role of ministry staff, Kharel said, “The secretaries and staff of this ministry are experienced. Carry out your work without interference from me. I will learn from you, and I commit not to intervene.”
