Kathmandu- Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his willingness to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Moscow, emphasizing that any meeting must be productive and lead to tangible results.
Speaking to media on Wednesday at the Diaoyutai Residence in Beijing, China, at the end of his four-day visit—his longest foreign trip since 2012—Putin said, “Holding meetings for the sake of meetings is a path to nowhere. If the meeting is well-prepared, it could produce positive outcomes.”
Putin confirmed that US President Donald Trump suggested such a meeting during their recent Alaska summit. “If Zelensky is ready, he can come to Moscow, and the meeting will take place,” he added, while reiterating concerns over the Ukrainian leader’s legitimacy, citing the lack of legal mechanisms extending Zelensky’s term.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in an interview with Indonesia’s Kompas, stressed that Moscow’s top priority remains a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis. He highlighted progress from three rounds of direct Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul, including prisoner exchanges and repatriation of soldiers’ bodies.
