Misleading Video Against Amisha Parajuli: Complaint Being Prepared at Cyber Bureau Against Ratan Karki

Prakash Kafle / Kathmandu: A misleading video targeting Amisha Parajuli, who came into the spotlight after participating in protests demanding the unconditional release of CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli following his arrest by the current government, has taken a new turn. The family has stated that they are preparing to file a formal complaint with the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police against YouTuber Ratan Karki, who made the video public.

In the approximately 50-second video shared by Karki on his Facebook page, a person presented as being related to Amisha was shown verbally abusing her, warning that no financial support would be provided, and justifying alleged police assault against her. However, a fact-check conducted by TechPana confirmed that the person shown in the video was not related to Amisha and that the content was entirely misleading. Following the revelation, Karki deleted the video from his Facebook page.

Amisha’s family has complained that such false content has led to character assassination and increased cyberbullying against her. According to her mother, Binita Parajuli, legal action will be taken against those involved in the incident. She also alleged that Amisha has been repeatedly targeted simply for exercising her democratic right to express her views.

It is also reported that Amisha had previously filed complaints with the Cyber Bureau against content that harmed her character on social media. The latest incident has once again raised serious concerns about the spread of misinformation, misuse of social media, and accountability.
