US–Iran Tensions Escalate, U.S. 48-Hour Ceasefire Proposal Rejected

Prakash Kafle / Kathmandu. Iran has reportedly rejected a 48-hour ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States, according to a semi-government news agency based in Tehran. Although the proposal was said to have been delivered to Iran via a third country on Wednesday, Tehran has refused to accept it.

According to the report, Iran expressed its disagreement not through a formal written response but by continuing its attacks. After Iran launched an attack on a U.S. military storage facility located on Bubiyan Island in Kuwait, Washington intensified its diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire. However, the United States has not yet issued any official response on the matter.

Earlier on Friday, Iran claimed that it had shot down two U.S. fighter jets. These were reported to be an F-15E and an A-10 aircraft. The F-15E was reportedly shot down during an operation inside Iran, where one crew member was rescued while the other remains missing.

Similarly, Iranian media reported that the A-10 aircraft crashed in the Persian Gulf region. However, the U.S. side has stated that it is still unclear whether the aircraft crashed due to an accident or was brought down by an attack.

This is said to be the first instance of U.S. aircraft being downed in the nearly five weeks of ongoing conflict. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that these developments will not affect the ongoing negotiations with Iran. In an interview, he described the situation as a state of war but clarified that diplomatic efforts would continue.
