Peterborough, UK – A 49-year-old Nepali man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a series of sexual offenses against eight victims, including seven children, spanning more than 19 years.

Pramod Dhakal, originally from Kathmandu and most recently living in the Peterborough area, was arrested in November 2023 after one victim confided in her family. Following the initial report encouraged seven more victims came forward.
All but one of the victims were children at the time of the abuse; the youngest was only 8 years old. Seven victims were from Cambridgeshire, while one lived in London. Many had remained silent for years, fearing they would not be believed.
Dhakal denied every allegation and forced a full trial at Cambridge Crown Court in September 2025. After a 20-day hearing, a jury took less than three hours to unanimously convict him on all 25 counts:
– 15 counts of sexual assault on a child under 16
– 7 counts of rape of a child under 16 (including five rapes of girls under 13)
– 3 counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity
On Monday, 1 December 2025, Judge Mark Bishop sentenced Dhakal to 25 years in prison with an additional 8-year extended license period. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and given an indefinite order banning him from ever contacting any of his eight victims.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Philippa Mallett said,
“No matter how long ago the abuse took place, we will always take reports of this kind extremely seriously. I hope this result brings some closure to the survivors and thank them for their bravery in helping prevent further children from being harmed.”
Former president of the Peterborough Nepali Society, Mahesh Adhikari, confirmed that Dhakal had never been a member of the society and had not taken part in any community activities. Dhakal had been running a restaurant in the Peterborough area in recent years and had no previous convictions in the UK.
