With Dashain approaching, advance bus ticket booking remains uncertain. The Department of Transport had planned discussions with stakeholders this week, but protests led to arson at its office, halting the process.
Spokesperson Ganeshman Singh Rai said decisions will only be made once conditions stabilize and talks are held with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. Traditionally, bookings open about 15 days before Dashain, but no clear plan has been finalized this year.
Transport entrepreneurs say public buses cannot operate without security guarantees, while the Road Department is focusing on clearing landslides and repairing highways to ensure smooth travel during the festival. Officials confirmed no major problems on key routes like Nagdhunga–Muglin, Narayangadh–Butwal, and BP Highway so far.
