Kathmandu — Former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been released on NPR 2 million bail by Patan High Court in the vape gold smuggling case.

The decision was made by a bench of judges, Arjun Prasad Koirala and Tejendra Prasad Sharma Sapkota. Mahara had been sent to custody by the Kathmandu District Court for pre-trial detention.
The case stems from an investigation into Chinese national Li Hasong smuggling gold hidden in electric cigarettes (vapes) on January 23, 2023. Mahara has denied any involvement or investment in the case.
The government prosecutor had demanded NPR 85,528,000 in surety under the Organized Crime Control Act and Customs Act.
