Kathmandu — Mahesh Basnet, Politburo member of the CPN-UML, claimed that attempts are being made to burn the constitution, and his party will not allow such efforts to succeed. Speaking at a greeting exchange and tea reception program organized by Youth Association Nepal in Gundu, Bhaktapur on Saturday, he made these remarks.
“Be alert — CPN-UML is here, UML is on this earth. The Youth Association is here. The Congress is here. Democratic parties are here. We won’t let democracy be killed. We won’t let the constitution be burned,” Basnet said. “We won’t let the country fall. We won’t let democracy be destroyed. We won’t let the parliamentary system collapse.”
He also asserted that the “game” of Kathmandu Metropolitan Mayor Balen Shah would not be allowed to succeed.
“We won’t let Nepal’s nationalism be hijacked and turned into a battlefield for UN forces or foreign powers. We won’t let the Gen Z generation be turned into criminals and terrorists by groups operating under international agents — we won’t let Balen’s game succeed,” Basnet added.
He further accused that after Chairman KP Sharma Oli resigned as Prime Minister, there were arson attacks on government buildings Including Singha Durbar, the Supreme Court, and Parliament, suggesting an ambush was being set against the country.
“He understood the sentiment of the Gen Z movement and resigned on the 24th. Twenty-one people were killed. Shots were fired from ambulances. Students in school uniforms were shot. Weapons were recovered that matched those used by Nepal Police,” Basnet said. “More than 14,000 prisoners were freed. Thousands of police weapons were looted. Before KP Oli resigned, Singha Durbar hadn’t been burned, the Supreme Court hadn’t been burned, Parliament hadn’t been burned. After his resignation, they were set on fire. Nepal was being ambushed.”
