According to him, the looting occurred during the height of the protests, when demonstrators stormed multiple financial institutions. Initial assessments suggest that nearly NPR 380 million worth of cash and gold was taken from the branch. Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage as part of the investigation.

Despite the chaos, Paudel stressed that the central bank’s focus was on maintaining payment systems and ensuring banking operations continued. “Even during the protests, the entire banking sector was mobilized to safeguard the payment system,” he said.

Reports show that 68 bank branches across the country were attacked during the protests, along with 69 ATMs. However, the overall banking system remains intact, according to the central bank.
