‘I remember making so many mandaps for Bhai Tika in the hostel that it was a joy just to watch. Celebrating Tihar with a large group remains unforgettable,’ said Bishwakarma. She also highlighted that, in her mixed-religion family, she often had to manage all preparations herself.

Rima, who loved dancing and singing from a young age, added, ‘My name was never missed from the Deusi-Bhailo performances. I also enjoyed building mandaps.’ Even though junior students were not allowed outside at night, she participated in the celebrations.

She further said, ‘As a child, I only danced, but as I grew older, I guided younger siblings to ensure they didn’t forget our culture.’

She emphasized the importance of viewing festivals not just as religious events but as cultural and social traditions that connect communities.
