Kathmandu- María Corina Machado, Venezuela’s opposition leader, has won the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for her tireless efforts to promote democratic rights and lead a peaceful transition from authoritarian rule.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee said Machado’s courage offers hope at a time when democracy is under threat worldwide. The committee emphasized that sustainable peace can only exist through democracy and that honoring brave individuals like Machado is vital.

Machado founded Sumate, an organization that works to strengthen democracy and push for free and fair elections in Venezuela.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump, who had aggressively campaigned for the award, failed to cut. Though nominated by eight countries, including Pakistan, Israel, and the U.S., his delayed Gaza ceasefire plan reportedly weakened his case this year.
