Kathmandu—The government has decided to hold a by-election for the vacant National Assembly seats on Magh 11, 2079 (Sunday).

Announcing the decision, government spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel said the Cabinet, in its Wednesday meeting, approved five key decisions alongside scheduling the National Assembly election.

The Cabinet decisions include:

  • Terminating the double taxation agreement between Nepal and Mauritius,

  • Amending Schedule 2 of the Federal Parliament Members’ Remuneration and Facilities Act, 2073,

  • Reducing the staff positions of the Personal Secretariat,

  • Approving the Second Amendment Regulation, 2082 for Printing and Publication,

  • Endorsing the formal visit of President Ramchandra Paudel to Doha, Qatar, from Kartik 17–20 to participate in the “Second World Summit for Social Development.”

Minister Kharel clarified that new regulations regarding online registration and renewal will come into effect after publication in the official gazette.
