New Delhi – India’s Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed that 2,427 Indian nationals have been deported from the United States since January this year.
Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, addressing a press briefing, said, “The recent case of Harjeet Kaur being sent back from the US falls under the same process. India’s policy on legal immigration is very clear.”
He explained that in such cases, the first step is to verify an individual’s citizenship, and once confirmed as Indian, deportation procedures are initiated. The same approach has been followed in the US deportation cases.

On the issue of visa fraud, Jaiswal clarified, “India promotes legal immigration. At the same time, we have taken strict action against illegal immigrants. The government, in coordination with various state authorities, has been cracking down on agents who facilitate illegal migration.”
