Kathmandu — Nepal has made a winning start in the ICC T20 World Cup Asia–East Asia Pacific Qualifier.

In their first match of the tournament, Nepal defeated Kuwait by 58 runs. Chasing Nepal’s target of 142 runs, Kuwait was bowled out for 83 runs in 18.1 overs. Clint Anto was Kuwait’s top scorer with 26 runs.

In bowling, Nepal’s captain Rohit Paudel, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Lalit Rajbanshi took 2 wickets each, while Nandan Yadav, Kushal Bhurtel, and Sompal Kami claimed one wicket apiece.

Earlier, after losing the toss in Oman and being invited to bat first, Nepal scored 141 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Opener Kushal Bhurtel played a composed innings.

Despite wickets falling regularly, Kushal lifted Nepal’s score with a contribution of 66 runs off 56 balls.

Gulshan Jha played an aggressive cameo, scoring 20 runs off 6 balls. Asif Sheikh scored 2, captain Rohit Paudel 16, Kushal Malla 4, Sandeep Jora 5, and Dipendra Singh Airee 19 runs. For Kuwait, Naveenraj Rajendran and Anudeep Chandmara took 2 wickets each.

Nepal will now play its final group-stage match against Japan on Friday.
