Kathmandu — The Supreme Court of Nepal has refused to issue an interim order in the Dedicated Trunkline electricity fee dispute filed by Arghakhanchi Cement Company. Justice Tek Prasad Dhungana’s single bench on November 15 summoned both parties for discussion and issued a show-cause order instead.
The cement company filed the petition claiming injustice and argued that the industry might need to shut down. Earlier, on November 3, the government and industry had reached a mediated settlement, and Prime Minister Sushila Karki had urged implementation, including payment facilitation and review mechanisms.
Following a power cut by the Nepal Electricity Authority on Kartik 4, the cement plant has remained closed. The company previously produced over 60,000 bags of cement daily.
According to the authority, Arghakhanchi Cement owes NPR 44.84 crore in unpaid electricity fees.
