Kathmandu- Sudan Gurung, coordinator of Hami Nepal, has advised Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa that senior leaders should no longer take the lead in politics.

The suggestion came during a tea and felicitation program at the President’s residence, Sheetal Niwas, on Constitution Day, which was attended by former presidents, ex-prime ministers, outgoing MPs, and young leaders. Gurung was also present.

Speaking with Thapa briefly at the event, Gurung later shared in a video message, “I met Gagan Dai and told him that the senior leaders should not continue leading; you do whatever you must, but they should not lead in this way.”

Gurung also noted that the constitution has protected senior leaders. He said, “The constitution is what protects you. Had the constitution been disregarded, even the president would have been affected, as well as other state authorities.”

Gurung has been in the spotlight since the Gen Z protests on Bhadra 23–24 and played a role in the formation of the new government following KP Sharma Oli’s resignation as prime minister.

His act of bowing to Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki during the oath-taking ceremony at the President’s residence also drew widespread attention on social media.
