Kathmandu — The Ministry of Home Affairs has removed SSP Bishwaraj Adhikari from his position at the Kathmandu District Police Office. SSP Ramesh Thapa has been appointed as his replacement. Thapa, previously serving at Police Headquarters, Naxal, has also commanded the District Police Office in Kaski.

During the Gen Z protests on Bhadra 23, the police’s extensive use of force led to a situation that quickly spiraled out of control. Protesters entered the Parliament building the next day, causing vandalism and arson. Key government structures, including Singha Durbar, were also damaged and set on fire.
The security lapses during the Gen Z protests were analyzed immediately, prompting the Home Ministry to change command in Kathmandu to ensure better management in the future.
