Her 80-year-old father-in-law, Devnarayan Prasad Sah, and mother-in-law, Shantidevi, residing in Rajbiraj, Saptari, released a video message on social media alleging physical and mental abuse by Sah and her son, engineer Binod Sah.
Devnarayan stated, ‘I built this house with my life’s savings and effort, but now my daughter-in-law Kiran and my son Binod have driven me out.’ He also claimed that on Aswin 20, while he was at the temple, important documents, including citizenship and property papers, were stolen, and he and his wife were allegedly assaulted.
He filed a formal complaint at the District Administration Office, Saptari, on Aswin 22, and further alleged assault on Kartik 2.
Kiran Kumari Sah has denied all allegations, calling them baseless, and claimed that the dispute has been politically and socially exaggerated. She said the quarrel was a normal family disagreement during festival preparations, but has been unnecessarily amplified.
Sah stated that she did not evict her in-laws, asserting that they came to her home voluntarily. She denied assault allegations, saying, ‘My husband did not assault anyone; I intervened to protect him when my father-in-law tried to attack.’
The District Administration Office has registered the complaint, and the police are preparing to call both parties for discussions.
Observers note that the longstanding political rivalry between JSP and Janamat Party may have influenced the publicization of this family dispute, suggesting it carries political undertones.
Kiran Sah is an active female political leader in Madhes. While local authorities attempt mediation, the dispute is unlikely to settle quickly due to its public and political dimensions.
