Kathmandu—Jagadish Kharel, Chief of News at Image Television, has been appointed as Nepal’s Minister for Communication and Information Technology by Prime Minister Sushila Karki.

The appointment was announced on Sunday evening. Kharel brings over 25 years of experience in the media industry and has hosted news broadcasts as well as the popular program “Hotseat” on Image Television.

The newly appointed minister will take the oath of office and secrecy at a ceremony at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, administered by President Ramchandra Paudel on Monday.

Prime Minister Karki has also recommended five additional ministers to President Paudel. The recommendations include Anil Kumar Sinha, former Supreme Court judge, for Industry; Sangita Kaushal Mishra, Joint Secretary, for Health; Madan Pariyar for Agriculture; Jagadish Kharel for Communication; and Dr. Mahabir Pun for Education, Science, and Technology.

Previously, Rameshwor Khanal was appointed Finance Minister, Kulman Ghising as Energy Minister, and Om Prakash Aryal as Home Minister.
