Kathmandu: In recent days, Nepal has been facing sudden power outages, sparking humorous and sarcastic reactions on social media. On Tuesday evening, electricity went out for nearly half an hour across Kathmandu and other parts of the country around 9:30 PM.
Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, once celebrated as the “light-bringer” who ended load-shedding during his tenure as Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, is now facing online criticism. At that time, leadership was often blamed whenever the lights went out. Now, social media users are turning their focus directly toward him.
Posts flooded Facebook and X (Twitter), with users joking, “Who do we blame now? Before, it was KP Oli and his team, but tonight the lights went out during dinner—who takes the blame?” Another quipped, “Kulman is Energy Minister now, but the electricity doesn’t seem stable either.”
While some pointed to technical issues, others mocked the situation, saying, “Those who deliberately switch off the lights deserve to live in darkness forever.”
