Kathmandu – A social media campaign exposing the lavish lifestyles of Nepali leaders and their children is gaining momentum online. Videos set to English songs with flashy effects compare the luxury enjoyed by political families with the hardships ordinary citizens face in Nepal. The campaign is trending on TikTok and Reddit under hashtags like #NoMoreCorruption and #WakeUpChallenge.

The campaign goes beyond entertainment, encouraging users to boycott brands promoted by leaders’ children, unfollow them on social media, and question the sources of their wealth. Heart-wrenching scenes, such as families separated at Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepalis working abroad, and villagers crossing rivers on risky rope bridges, are highlighted alongside images of extravagant lifestyles.

Social media users are comparing luxury cars, branded clothing, foreign trips, and lavish parties of leaders’ children with the daily struggles of the general population. Photos of former President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Baburam Bhattarai, and their children are circulating widely.

Inspired by a similar campaign in the Philippines, Nepali users are sharing posts on Reddit communities like ‘Nepal’ and ‘NepalSocial,’ highlighting the wealth of leaders’ children linked to corruption.

The movement is not limited to online activity. Activists are calling for offline demonstrations, urging citizens to protest at the Parliament on September 8 (Bhadra 23), emphasizing that social media activism should be complemented by physical action.
